The Seamen’s Christian Friend Society is a registered Charity and with no statutory funding. This means we rely on contributions and help from our supporters, donors and volunteers to be able to continue carrying the Gospel Message to members of the seafaring community.
Our supporters come from all types of environments and their help can take many forms. A number of private individuals across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world donate to us, some regularly, others on an ad hoc basis. There are those too who leave bequests to us. Many churches and community groups fundraise on our behalf and donate much-needed items such as clothing, toiletries and recreational material. We also welcome corporate support from maritime businesses and organisations whose financial and practical support would be much appreciated.
To all those who work behind the scenes to support us, we thank you most sincerely. And if you are considering making a donation to Seamen's Christian Friend Society, we thank you too. We want you to know that we are committed to fundraising and operating in ways that are legal, honest and transparent, as the following declarations explain.
We are accountable
SCFS may be relatively small organisation, with limited fundraising resources, but we work to attain the highest possible standards of operational efficiency and fiscal prudency. Moreover, we are committed to providing the highest standards of service and care to all within the seafaring community whom we serve and to make ourselves open and accountable to our supporters.
We are transparent
We rely on your support and so we are committed to providing you with clear, concise information about how your support is funding the work that we do and the positive impact is has on the seafaring community.
We are responsible
We take our legal and ethical responsibilities very seriously and so we are open and transparent about our operations and we will never share your details with any other third party. If you wish to be informed about our work, we will do so in a way that suits you.
We appreciate your help
We recognise that without you, we would be unable to carry the Christian message to the seafaring community and to help improve the lives of thousands of seafarers around the world. To everyone who has helped us, is currently helping us or who plans to do so, we thank you most sincerely.
