David Thomson in Paisley is now the Pastor of SCFS Christian Fellowship – a service specifically to help and encourage Christians at sea. They often feel very isolated, especially if there are no other Christians on board. David keeps in regular contact by correspondence and offers a series of Bible correspondence courses for those who want to develop their faith further.
"But what about their wives?" asks David. He is increasingly aware of their own feelings of isolation and the difficulties they face having an absent husband for nine months at a time. One man in the Philippines recently asked David to contact his wife by email, as she had expressed interest in a correspondence course. Says David, "I asked my wife, Isobel, to send an email. She was able to write a few lines which a friend of ours translated into Tagalog. In next to no time we received an extremely positive response, and a Tagalog Bible course has now been posted to her."
