One of the best known challenges in the bible is the command of our Lord Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you...”
Working as a chaplain or a volunteer with the Seamen’s Christian Friend Society provides a wonderful opportunity to rise up to this challenge and carry His message to people from almost every country of the world. You won’t even have to go to their countries as seafarers come to our countries and to our ports. Nor will you have to learn their languages, as English is the spoken language of the seafaring community. You may have to speak a little slower than usual, but your seafaring friends will understand you.
In the vast majority of cases, seafarers are very happy to be visited as they are often very lonely, so one can befriend them and share the gospel. Of course, it takes faith and courage to walk onboard a ship to meet complete strangers and share the Gospel. But the rewards are bounteous and you can be sure that when the God’s Word gets into the hands of seafarers, its message will be carried to the farthest corners of the world.
If you would like to find out more about carrying the Lord’s message to the seafaring community through the Seamen’s Christian Friend Society, please contact us here. We would love to hear from you.
